Overview
Gosaikunda Lake is a pilgrimage site for devotees of Lord Shiva located in the Langtang region. During Janai Purnima, the place is visited by thousands. Villages we pass during the trek are mostly formed by Tamang communities, predominantly influenced by Tibetan cultural practices.
Langtang Gosaikunda Lake trek is a part of Langtang National Park in which our main destination is the freshwater lake of Gosaikunda. The trek involves walking through streams and suspension bridges as well as traversing rhododendron and pine forests. Moreover, we get a glimpse of the culture and lifestyle of the people living in Langtang Villages.
- The trek to Gosaikunda Lake Trek starts at Thulo Bharkhu, which is a couple hours’ drive from Kathmandu. We ascend through rhododendron forests and reach Chisapani where we spend our first night. Chisapani provides some splendid views of Langtang along with the jugal Himal mountain ranges. We hike further through the cultural villages of Brahmins, Chettri, Newar, and Tamang.
- After that, we tread along the trail to Magen Goth and then to Phedi. We then ascend to Lauribinayak via the Lauribinayak Pass (4165 m). The pass offers some excellent views of Langtang, Manaslu, and Ganesh Himal.
- After hiking further, we reach Gosaikunda Lake. After exploring the lake, we will descend to Chandan Bari. From there, we descend further, crossing rhododendron forests, villages, terraces, and farmlands, before reaching Dhunche. We then take a 7-hour drive to Kathmandu from there.
- Gosaikunda Lake Trek is best to do in autumn and spring. It offers a combination of Glacial Lakes, rhododendron forests, snow peaks, and traditional settlements. It is one of the most satisfying treks in northern Nepal.
- We provide Gosaikunda Lake Trek with quality service and affordable prices. Additionally, we offer an experienced guide who will accompany you all the way.
History of Gosaikunda Lake
The lake of Gosaikunda is not only a trekking heaven but also a holy site. Both Hindus and Buddhists consider the lake sacred for several reasons. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva made this lake by thrusting his trident into the mountain.
During the Hindu festival of Janai Purnima, thousands of pilgrims take a bath in the lake. The lake feeds water to the Trishuli River. Moreover, it remains frozen during the six months from October to June. In addition, there are about 100 lakes in the vicinity of Gosaikunda.
More About Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek
This trek carries significant value for both pilgrims and trekkers. Also, this place acts as a religious place for both Hindus and Buddhists. The holy Lake, Gosaikunda lake is the main attraction during this trek along with various floras and faunas such as Red Pandas, Himalayan Tahr, etc found in the Langtang National Park. Unlike the Annapurna region, this region doesn't impose any trekking permit cost or TIMS card cost.
Detailed information about this trek is mentioned in the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek itinerary. Also, the Langtang Gosaikunda Lake Trek cost is usually sold in packages where all the food, transportation, accommodation cost, and permits cost are included. However, the daunting task is to choose the appropriate partner for the expedition. Don't worry, our agency is equipped with local guides and they have good communication skills as well as experience in the trekking field.
Best Time for Gosaikunda Trek
As any other trek, the best time for the trek is spring and autumn season. The weathers are usually clear with a minuscule amount of fog so, the spellbinding view of mountains can be captured without any hampering. Moreover, the green forest, terrace farmland, and Rhododendron-covered hills during the spring season make this trace even more alluring. Likewise, the Autumn season often welcomes more tourists resulting in getting more crowds. The pilgrims usually travel during this season to pay homage to the holy lake. However, the holy lake remains frozen during winter and the trails are more slippery and muddy during monsoon. So, we highly recommend not to do hiking during this time of the year. The high Himalayas do not show mercy to anyone so, the death tolls and lost cases of trekkers usually have one thing in common which is they were traveling alone. It is always better to have someone watching behind our back and more so when traversing steep and rocky paths in mountains. Guides have comprehensive knowledge about the trekking trails, have good contact with the locals, and are highly trained and experienced. Moreover, they are equipped with a first-aid kit and are highly dexterous during life-threatening moments. So, travel guides and travel insurance are very vital during every trek in the Himalayas. Can I complete this Trek without Guide?
