Overview

The Kajin Sara Trek is an exhilarating and challenging adventure through the breathtaking landscapes in the Manang district of Nepal. Starting from Pokhara, the journey kicks off with a scenic 4-hour bus ride to Beshishar, followed by a 7-hour jeep ride to Chame on the first day. The drive offers mesmerizing views of the Marsyangdi River, cliffs with waterfalls, and the Marsyandi River's hydropower. In Chame, trekkers can enjoy the beauty of the Marsyangdi River up close and even hike to Chame Viewpoint for panoramic views. The second day involves trekking to Lamjung Himal Base Camp, passing through lush pine forests, and encountering challenging terrain. The route presents both old and new paths, with the new paths being easier but longer. Yaks and local shepherds add to the unique experience and can help obtain more insights into the region. Trekkers spend the night in a shelter at Lamjung Himal Base Camp.

On the third day of the Kajin Sara Trek, hikers start trekking on a more challenging section with no clean drinking water sources. The trail is rocky and all the way ascending, leading to Dharamshala (Shelter). The trek continues with breathtaking cliff views and eventually reaches Love Lake, known for its heart-shaped formation. Trekkers overnight at the shelter near Love Lake inside the Dharmasala camping. The fourth day is the highlight of the journey, with a trek to Kajin Sara Lake, Nepal's highest lake at 5002 meters. The lake offers a mesmerizing sight surrounded by rocks and snowy peaks, making it feel like a different world altogether. After exploring Kajin Sara Lake, the trekkers retrace their steps to Love Lake and Lamjung Himal Base Camp. The final day includes a 3-hour trek to Chame and a drive back to Pokhara, concluding this unforgettable adventure filled with natural beauty and challenging terrain.

Why you will love the Kajin Sara Lake Trek?
    • Trek to the highest lake in Nepal discovered in 2019, the Kajin Sara Lake situated at an altitude of 5002m | 16411 ft.
    • Trek to one of the most isolated and pristine trekking trails of Nepal.
    • Perfect trek for experienced hikers who prefer camping over staying in tea houses.
    • Otherworldly views of Lamjung Himal, Koto Peak, and many more snow-capped mountains from the Kajin Sara Lake.

Why Choose the Kajin Sara Trek?

The Kajin Sara Trek stands out as a remarkable choice for those seeking an adventure that combines awe-inspiring natural beauty with a sense of exploration. Unlike some of the more popular trekking routes in Nepal, like Annapurna Base Camp Trek, Annapurna Circuit Trek, and Everest Base Camp Trek this trek offers a quieter, more remote experience, allowing you to truly connect with the untouched landscapes and nature. The journey takes you through enchanting forests, alongside rushing rivers, and up challenging terrains, all leading to the crown jewel of the trek: Kajin Sara Lake, Nepal's highest lake. Surrounded by imposing rocks and pristine snow-covered peaks, this hidden gem feels like a world apart. Whether you're an experienced trekker looking for a new challenge or a nature enthusiast craving untouched vistas, the Kajin Sara Trek promises a unique and unforgettable adventure.

Kajin Sara Trek difficulty?

The Kajin Sara Trek presents a challenge for trekkers, making it suitable for only those with prior trekking experience and a good level of physical fitness. Its difficulty stems primarily from the high altitudes reached during the journey, with the Kajin Sara Lake itself at an altitude of over 5,000 meters (16,400 feet).

The altitude-related issues such as altitude sickness can be prevented with proper acclimatization and awareness. However, the terrain varies from steep ascents to rocky and sometimes slippery trails, particularly in the section between Lamjung Himal Base Camp and Love Lake. Moreover, the path during this trek is isolated so there are no Tea houses/lodges and camping is the only option so beginners are not recommended for Kajin Sara Lake. The remote and less-traveled nature of the trek proves that navigation can be tricky in places, so the assistance of local and experienced guides is necessary. Overall, the Kajin Sara Trek offers a rewarding yet challenging experience for those with previous experience and seeking to conquer high altitudes and explore remote terrains, and rugged landscapes.

Best Season for Kajin Sara Lake Trek:

The Kajin Sara Trek, much like other Himalayan treks in Nepal, offers different experiences depending on the season. The optimal times to undertake this trek are during Spring (Mid-February to May) and Autumn (September to mid-December).

In Spring, the weather is mild with temperatures ranging from 11 to 20 degrees Celsius at lower elevations, getting cooler at higher altitudes. The skies are typically clear, providing excellent visibility for mountain vistas. Even during the peak season of Spring, the Kajin Sara Trek is less crowded, while more popular routes like the Annapurna Base Camp Trek or the Everest Base Camp Trek are filled with people. Moreover, the lower altitudes are covered in snow during this season, giving trekkers the sensation of ascending a mountain. The clear mornings reveal breathtaking sunrise views over Kajin Sara, creating an awe-inspiring sight.

In Autumn, temperatures range from 8 to 15 degrees Celsius, making trekking more comfortable. This season is considered the best overall season for trekking in Nepal, not only for the Kajin Sara Trek but also for various other Himalayan treks. The stable weather with minimal rainfall offers stunning views of Lamjung, Koto, and other majestic peaks. The still remains less congested compared to many other treks in the Nepalese Himalayas. Autumn provides an excellent balance of favorable weather conditions and captivating mountain scenery.

The Summer season, on the other hand, brings rainfall that can make the trek routes slippery and adds to the difficulty of camping during the Kajin Sara Trek. Even to the most experienced hikers the trek to Kajin Sara Lake is not recommended during the Summer and Winter seasons due to extreme cold, shortage of drinking water, route visibility, and many more challenging factors.
