Overview
Royal Trek starts outside Begnas Lake. It is one of the shortest treks around Pokhara that involve hiking along the foothills of Annapurna. Royal Trek takes us to the village of the Gurung community and other ethnic groups and provides some gorgeous views of the snow-capped Annapurna range, Machhapuchhre and Lamjung Himal. The royal trek takes 4 to 5 days to complete.
This enjoyable trek requires no earlier trekking experience making it an excellent trek for new trekkers as well as aged people. The hike leads you through some cultural habitats which are immensely rich in tradition. Moreover, you’ll get to see panoramic views of the Pokhara valley. Also, you’ll enjoy walking through the forests of rhododendron and magnolia.

This trip traverses through Begnas lake, one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and Rupa Lake. We mostly find Gurung villages along the way so, we can indulge in the hospitality of Gurungs. It also grants an opportunity to inspect the cultures, traditions, and livelihoods of the Gurung people and hear their Gurung language. Tasting local cuisines while gawking at the mesmerizing views of mountain ranges Like Annapurna, Lamjung Himal and Machhapuchre are some of the unique experiences offered by this Trek. We pass through agricultural rice fields and Rhododendron forests. We can interact with the locals and gather more information about the trek. During our return, we can opt to do boating on Begnas Lake or taste the local fish freshly caught from the blue-watered lake itself. Also, the chances of getting altitude sickness are almost zero. Moreover, we can do the Pokhara sightseeing tour. The hiking trail gained its name as Royal Trek when Prince Charles from the UK initiated this trek during the 1980s. After that, it started gaining popularity and over a short period of time, it became one of the most favoured short treks of the Annapurna region. Royal Trek is a short pleasant trip that starts with a short drive from our hotel at Pokhara to Bijayapur from where the hike starts. On the first day, after about 4-5 hours of hiking, we will reach Kalikasthan.
The next day we will continue our hike towards Syaklung crossing villages, and exploring the food, life, and culture of the people living there. It is also 5-6 hours of the hike on the 2nd day.
From Syaklung, we start trekking early morning through traditional Gurung villages. After about 6 hours of hiking, we will arrive at Chisapani and spend the night there. In a homestay.
On the last day of the trek, we will walk downhill to Rupa Lake, boat around, and return to Pokhara.
Food and accommodation
During the first three days of the trek, we will be accommodating a homestay at our respective stops. You will be pleased by the hospitality you receive.
We will be eating the main Nepali food i.e. Dal, Bhaat, Tarkari (Rice, Lentil soup, cooked vegetables), and pickles for our lunch and dinner. Besides that, you can find other menu items like pizza, chips, pasta, noodles, milk tea, chocolates, bread, etc.

Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) are the best times to do the Royal trek. Usually, the hills are covered with green lush vegetation and Rhododendrons blooms adding a unique charm to this trek in spring. From September to November, the skies are clear and it barely rains, so the views of landscapes and the Himalayas are seen very vividly during this time of the year.
This trek is one of the easiest and shortest treks. Also, the paths are not physically demanding and the likelihood of altitude sickness almost dwindles to zero so, the children as well as the older people can easily conquer this trek. This place embraces the visitors with a great view of the Himalayas, wildlife, lush forest and blooming Rhododendrons. So, it can pacify the thirst of curious children's minds.
Since this trek is popular among the various short treks, the visitors can savour the local cuisine of this place and spend the night in a homestay. They can have an up-close view of typical Nepali houses. The expenses for both accommodation and food are included in the package. Also, they are pre-arranged by the guides.
