Overview
The Short Annapurna Base Camp trek - 5 days should definitely be on your trekking wishlist. This short route takes you to the Annapurna Base Camp at a 4,130-meter elevation, which is perfect for those with limited days to spare. You may have just got back from another trek, you finished touring the cities of Nepal, or you are visiting a friend in Pokhara, and you just do not have the weeks to spend on a trek. This is where the 5-Day Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek comes into play.
This ABC short trek takes you to Jhinudanda on a jeep and trek to Sinuwa on your first day of the trek. On the second day, you will trek to Deurali following a beautiful trail that is easy as well. Following that, you will reach ABC on the third day. This is the main highlight of the trek and you will be stunned viewing the scenes that the place offers.
Back in the day, you had to trek to Jhinudanda, it was not accessible by road. But, at present, you can take a Jeep up to the Jhinudanda hanging bridge, cutting the trek short. This is good for the village community as now they are connected to the city of Pokhara, making things like hospital services and other modern services easily available. However, this also means that the overall experience of the trek has diminished to some extent.
Normally, you would experience the village trail, its culture, and its local lifestyle, but since the road takes you to Jhinudanda directly, you no longer experience these things. This Annapurna Base Camp short trek is good for those with very little time to spare; but not for everyone.
- Ascend to an impressive altitude of 4,130 meters within 5 days and behold the breathtaking beauty of the Annapurna valley.

Annapurna Base Camp Trek Difficulty Level
The 5-day Annapurna Base Camp trek is a condensed but moderately challenging adventure, ideal for those with a good fitness level and some trekking experience. The trek involves long days with significant elevation gains, particularly on steep stone steps that can be physically demanding. At an altitude of 4,130 meters (13,549 feet), the base camp's height can still pose a risk of altitude sickness, even with the shorter trek. It’s crucial to pace yourself and be vigilant for any symptoms.
For those trekking to Annapurna Base Camp for the first time, we highly recommend opting for the 7-day itinerary instead. The longer trek allows for a more gradual ascent, which means less daily elevation gain and more time for your body to adjust to the altitude. This slower pace significantly reduces the risk of altitude sickness and makes the trek more manageable overall. Additionally, you’ll have more time to enjoy the stunning scenery and immerse yourself in the local culture.
In either case, your safety is our top priority, and we are always prepared with helicopter rescue services if needed, ensuring you’re in safe hands throughout your journey. Whether you choose the 5-day- or 7-day trek, the Annapurna Base Camp trek promises a rewarding and unforgettable experience with the right preparation and support.
Annapurna Base Camp Altitude Facts
You might have heard that the recommended elevation gain per day is 500–800 meters, but since this trek mostly covers the lower hills (below 3500 meters), it’s not a big deal. You will reach 3200 meters (Chhomrong village) on the third day of the trek on your way to ABC from Deurali. However, it could turn out to be a big deal for first-timers and beginners alike, as it can be difficult to adjust if you have never been to the hills of Nepal. In some cases, Beginners might feel tired and lose their appetite, which is not a good sign. A 5-day short ABC trek itinerary involves daily elevation gain slightly exceeding the recommended limit, but the effects of it are trivial given that you are a seasoned hiker. The maximum altitude we will reach is 4130 meters above sea level at the base camp, however, side hikes are a thing at ABC and you can climb as high as 4300 meters. This side hike is impossible in winter and spring as heavy snow keeps you from hiking up from the camp. Altitude sickness is not rare in Annapurna trek, but the effects are trivial as we are not in the danger zone. Altitude sickness starts to get complicated once you reach 5000 meters above sea level, which is not a height you will reach in this Annapurna Base Camp 5- days short trek. The maximum altitude you will trek to is 4130 meters. At this height, altitude sickness can get you, but the aftermath will not be of grave danger. You might feel a bit dizzy and nauseous, and you might have a slight headache, that is the extent of altitude sickness in this region. If you experience these symptoms, please make sure that you let the trek guide know about it. Our guide will take you down to a safe height, where you will hopefully recover from the effects of altitude sickness. A trekker rarely has to be evacuated from this trek following altitude sickness, but the chances are never zero. In such an emergency, we will contact emergency helicopter services to get you out of the hills and to the nearest medical facility. Autumn (September to mid-November) is the main trekking season. It is also the festive season in Nepal, meaning you can join in on the celebration for a cultural immersion. This season offers almost very minimal rainfall, the clouds steer clear of the views, and the trekking trails are somewhat dry. The next best season to do this Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek is the season of spring (March to May). This season offers clear views much like autumn but with occasional rainfall and snowfall. You will also experience the rhododendron flowers blooming along the trail. From mid-November to February, it is winter season in Nepal, and it is also one of the best times for the Short Annapurna Base Camp trek. However, trekkers should be prepared to traverse snowy trails from Deurali to the base camp and back. Anticipate encountering refreshing mountain chill, with temperatures dropping to as low as -15 degrees in the morning and evening. Despite the challenging conditions, the snow-covered landscape offers a captivating allure, contingent upon favorable weather conditions. During the summer season, trekking in the Annapurna region is wonderful. You'll get to witness the farming period, see wildflowers blooming along the trail, and experience fast-flowing rivers, waterfalls, and lush greenery. In summer, there's also an increased chance of encountering wild creatures as they are more active. However, it's important to note that from June to September, the monsoon season brings heavy rainfall to the region, which may reduce visibility and hinder views of the mountains from the Base camp and along the trails. On the upside, the temperature is pleasant during this time, so you won't need to carry a heavy backpack, and the risk of altitude sickness is lower compared to the spring and winter seasons. This is a tea house trail, you will find a few tea houses en route. Staying in tea houses is the best way to experience the Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek as they are owned and operated by the locals of the villages. These tea houses offer insights into the daily lives of the locals and befriend you with the locals as well. Our first stop at Sinuwa offers us a great range of accommodations, from lodges and guest houses to tea houses. You will also get to choose from a number of different dishes, including international and local dishes. There are recently constructed lodges that offer attached bathrooms, but for the rest of the trek, you will not find any. Tea House in Annapurna base camp Also, the rooms are designed twin-sharing basis, meaning you will share one bedroom with one of the trekkers in your group. Finding a single room is not a luxury in Annapurna regions, but you might just get one during the winter season. At the Annapurna Base Camp, you will get to stay in much bigger tea houses, in terms of space. Since this is a well-developed and accessible trekking trail, you will get to taste a bunch of different dishes during your Annapurna Base Camp Short Trek. You will get to have foods that you are used to, including pizzas, pasta, sandwiches, pancakes, spaghetti, etc., and also local dishes including, Dhindo, Dal Bhat, flatbread, Sel roti, Gurung bread, Gundruk, etc. We recommend you try the local dishes and find out if it is to your liking, it might even turn out to be one of your favorite dishes. One thing to remember is, that once you cross the village of Bamboo, you are not allowed to have any meat dishes. You will see a big sign on the way out of Bamboo stating that you are not permitted to have meat moving forward. The local communities treat the Annapurna Peak as the god/giver of food, which is why the locals believe in keeping the region free of meat, as they are considered impure food. How to Identify and Avoid Altitude Sickness While Trekking to Annapurna Base Camp?

Because of the wider field in Chomrong compairing to the other places, they prepare the rope for hunting. This is the reason the village got its name 'Chomrong'. Sinuwa Village History
According to locals, Sinuwa village used to be almost empty in earlier days. The name of the village is derived from the Nepalese word “Sino” which means a dead body. The story of this village is something you should know about. There were small shepherd houses used as temporary houses by shepherds while they were out, grazing their cattle.
That place used to be famous for its sheep ranch but in the winter, many animals used to die due to the cold. It used to be difficult to manage the dead bodies of sheep and goats so they used to throw them off the steep mountain. This attracted many vultures and eagles as they would feast on those dead animals. That is how the village got its name 'Sinuwa'.
